I thought working from home during the holidays would mean that I could spend my lunch hour (and maybe a few breaks here and there) getting some reading done... but then I got a Wii for Xmas... and that idea was shot...
Anyway, since my last book post - I finished The Sweet Far Thing. It was the perfect ending to the Gemma Doyle series... and to my recent obsession with teeny bopper books. Wanting to move on from that phase in my life... I borrowed Night by Elie Wiesel from my cousin... and read it in about four hours...
Night by Elie Wiesel
I think this is one of those books they tried to make me read in school... but I never got around to it. I'm glad I came across it again because it was really intense and so honest. It brought me back to reality. The preface itself told so much about the author and how all he wanted was for people to know and remember what happened during the war.
He was 15 (or 16) when he and his family - and his entire community - were forced out of their homes and sent to Auschwitz. He talks about his struggle to keep near his father - and to keep himself and his father alive.
It's a shame I wasn't interested in history as a kid... but now I just can't seem to get enough of it. This book was heart breaking and amazing.

I find the one thing I can appreciate about getting older is rediscovering new appreciation for things I scorned as an impetuous youth. Three cheers for Rupa!
