In India, I didn't have regular access to a phone, a computer, or the internet (what good is a computer without the internet anyway?). I thought it would be an awful scary feeling - but it was exactly the opposite. Not having to worry about missing phone calls, checking and responding to emails and social media comments was completely relaxing, and exactly what I needed. I opened my eyes and experienced life instead of worrying about telling people about my every move. It was like... OMG, LOOK AT THE MONKEY! - Not OMG, I NEED TO UPDATE FACEBOOK BECAUSE I JUST SAW A MONKEY!
After an entire week of not even thinking about Facebook (so sad), my brother arrived in India with a working iPhone and mentioned that he had the Facebook App. It was like an alarm went off in my head as I suddenly had access. I felt like I NEEDED to check my email and my Facebook and see what the world was up to. So, I did. And I didn't feel too bad about it because it had been over a week after all. After that day though, I didn't check it again until I got back to the US... which was a couple weeks later. I have to admit this was mostly because we found out that using the net on the iPhone in India was about $4 a minute. haha.
Since then, I check my Facebook every weekday. Not so much on the weekends. I've determined that Facebook is my goto site for any second of the day that I feel even the slightest bit bored or "over" what I'm doing. This mostly happens at work which is an awful shame. I do like my job - I just wish I could be more focused.... I have an idea...
New goal: I will only allow myself to check Facebook twice a day at work. This way, if I get bored, I can at least make "valuable" use of my time by reading a news site or an interesting blog, or even getting back to my todo list habit and knocking out tasks that I've been putting off. In order to be an all-around more productive person - this goal is essential!
